The majority of our raw materials are produced on the farm, but we do need to buy in some, for instance for our preserves, pies, sausage and burgers. Similarly, most of the preparation is done on farm although we rely on the specialist skills of a couple of local food producers to add value to our product.

Like us both businesses use only traditional kitchen store cupboard ingredients, no ‘artificial additives or preservatives’.
Origins and ingredients
We’ve spent time locating UK suppliers that we’re happy with so we can guarantee quality and traceability. We investigated using only organic products but have not taken this route, at least for now, due to the food miles involved and the wish to support UK farmers. So, rather than the origin list for our herbs sounding like a world tour we eventually located a family business on a Norfolk farm, Norfolks Finest Herbs, that sells wholesale as well as selling online and through independent retailers.
Our farm, meat plant and food preparation room are all closely monitored and verified by outside agencies as well as by ourselves and we have procedures in place to ensure safety and quality of our meat and meat products.
Compostable bags
We continue our environmentally-sensitive approach to our products through to our packaging. We use a 2 part recyclable box for mail order and our customers at markets and shows are offered compostable biodegradable bags, not plastic bags .
The bags are made from corn-starch and can be added to the compost heap where they break down to water, CO2 and residual organic carbon (compost) leaving no hamful residues. The bag needs both moisture and soil fauna to start the decomposition process so it won't suddenly disappear on your way home from market!
Our supplier of compostable bags is Biobags Scotland, they supply business and retail customers across the country with a range of compostable products from bin bags and dog litter bags to compostable cutlery.
